    Welsh – Ryan Arena is located in Evanston Illinois. It is a multi-purpose arena found on the campus of Northwestern University. Welsh – Ryan Arena is where the Northwestern University Wildcats men and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball and men’s wrestling teams call home. Welsh – Ryan Arena is named in recognition of the gift made by Patrick G. Ryan in honor of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Patrick G. Ryan Sr. and his wife’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Welsh Sr. Opening in 1952, the arena was known as McGaw Memorial Hall or McGaw Hall. The Welsh – Ryan Arena has a hardwood playing surface. Welsh – Ryan Arena has the seating capacity of 8,117. In the Big Ten Conference it is currently the only arena that does not have the seating capacity of 10,000 or more. This will soon change in 2014 when the Rutgers joins the conference. Their arena, Rutgers Athletic Center is listed with the seating capacity of 8,000.
