On a hill overlooking Los Angeles, Dodger Stadium is located in Chavez Ravine. The land for Dodger Stadium was originally purchased from landowners by the city in the early 1950s with funds from the Federal Housing Act of 1949. The city brought back the property from the Federal Housing Authority in the mid 1950s. The voters approved a “Taxpayers Committee for Yes to Baseball” in 1958 that allowed the Dodgers to acquire 352 acres of Chavez Ravine to build a new stadium on. In 1959 ground was broken for the stadium. To provide a level surface for the stadium and parking lots dirt from the top of a couple of nearby ridges were used to fill Sulfur and Cemetery Ravines. An elementary school was buried and sits beneath the parking lot along the third base side. In building of Dodger Stadium eight million cubic yards of earth was moved in the process. Designed to be capable of expanding to the seating capacity of 85,000, the stadium was built with the seating capacity of 56,000. Dodgers stadium has two nicknames; Chavez Ravine after the geographic area the stadium was built on and Blue Heaven On Earth.

    • An older ball park with nice amenities. Could improve creature comforts. Outstanding parking.

    • First, the food items! - Honey Bourbon Smoked Wings – They were flavorful and not overly sweet but were a bit messy for the ballpark. I would love a boneless option. The wings are normally served on a bed of potato salad and with a square of cornbread. - Louisiana Hot Sausages - They have nice snap to them, with a strong but not overly aggressive heat level. The "blue cheese coleslaw" makes for a soothing accent to help temper the fiery heat of the link, and is carefully constructed to not saturate the bun in liquid. Plus, wonderful with beer! - Pulled Pork Sandwich – The highlight dish! The tangy and sweet blend accents the pork nicely. This is some of the best pulled pork I've had in LA, and I'm a barbecue snob from Alabama! A scant amount of red onion garnishes this sandwich along with few sliced dill pickles for a balanced flavor blend. - The atmosphere at Dodger Stadium is unmatched in baseball! Now the third oldest ballpark in the majors, the view of the San Gabriel Mountains past the outfield bleachers is gorgeous. Much has been made of the recent unruly fan behavior outside of the ballpark. The recent ownership change and stadium enhancements have helped to bring back the “family atmosphere” to the ballpark. Way to go Dodgers! ----------Jim in Los Angeles.
