The American Airlines Center is home to the National Hockey League's ice hockey team, the Dallas Stars as well as the National Basketball Association's basketball team, the Dallas Mavericks. The stadium opened in 2001 after nearly two years of construction with initial construction costs of about $420 million. The stadium is located in Dallas, Texas and has a current seating capacity of up to 19,200 for basketball, 18,532 for ice hockey, and 21,000 for concerts (plus standing room for the sporting events). The arena floor is a multipurpose surface that can accommodate both basketball and ice hockey events and switch from one to another fast. There is a very large HD video scoreboard that is hung in the center of the arena as well as restrooms and concessions available on site.
