Hank McCamish Pavilion is located in Atlanta Georgia. It is the indoor arena for Georgia Institute of Technology. It was formally called the Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The arena is often referred to as “The Dome” or “The Thillerdome”. Hank McCamish Pavilion is the home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s and women’s basketball teams. Hank McCamish Pavilion formerly known as Alexander Memorial Coliseum opened in 1956. Alexander Memorial Coliseum was named after the football coach at the time, William A Alexander. The original seating capacity was 6,996. The dome (270 ft diameter) was constructed with no support pillars, giving fans a unobstructed view. The coliseum underwent three major renovations between 1956-1996. In 1986, 2,150 seats were added and in 1995-1996 750 more seats were added. In 1995-1996 the floor was lowered to add more seating and many benches were replaced with chair backs. These three renovations brought the seating capacity up to 9,191. In 2010, Georgia Tech announced a renovation to take place on the Alexander Memorial Coliseum. With this renovation came the closing of the coliseum for a year and a naming change in honor of the McCamish family for their donation, giving the arena the name of Hank McCamish Pavilion.
