LSU expansion of Tiger Stadium south end upper deck on schedule

Posted December 17, 2013

LSU's Tiger Stadium will be bigger, and hopefully for Tiger fans better, in 2014. Construction of a south end zone upper deck is on schedule and due to be completed in time for the LSU home opener Sept. 6 against Sam Houston State. See a photo gallery of the work here. "It's on schedule and the crews have taken the work to another level," said Eddie Nunez, senior associate athletic director for internal operations. "The construction crews have taken the work to another level and are working 24 hours a day. They are trying to maximize efforts while the weather is favorable. "A lot of concrete is being poured and we are getting to a point where the building is closing in. We had some hurdles like you always do, but we've made up a lot of time and are moving at a better pace. That's why you see the stadium lights on some nights." addition.jpg LSU senior associate athletic director Eddie Nunez said work is going on 24 hours a day on the south end zone expansion at Tiger Stadium. LSUsports.net photo The improvement will add about 6,900 seats, including a 1,500-seat upper deck, a 3,000-seat club level and as many as 24 suites. Tiger Stadium currently holds 92,542 and the increase will make Tiger Stadium the nation's seventh largest on campus football stadium and third largest in the SEC behind Tennessee (102,455) and Alabama (101,821). Nunez said the twin video boards will go up at some point in the late spring. He said the construction won't hamper LSU having its spring football game nor the Bayou Country Superfest in May 23-25. **************
